What is SEO Copywriting (and is it here to stay)???
I’ve spoken with very intelligent, wealthy people who have no comprehension of what SEO is (that’s an acronym for Search Engine Optimization) or why they need it.
In fact, I’ve known some business owners who still don’t understand why they need a website at all.
Face it – the Internet is here to stay and if you aren’t with us, you will slowly fade away, losing to your competitors and those who understand simple Internet marketing tools.
If we break it down, it’s like this:
- S = Search
- E = Engine
- O = Optimization
Searching
We all know what it’s like to search for something on the Internet. We plug in the words and the computer “does its thing.” Truly, however, it’s much more than that.
Engines Make it Go
You may have noticed that there are different ways to search. You might use Google, or Yahoo, or Bing. Those are called “engines,” the tool or vehicle that is used behind the scenes to give you the results you asked for.
Therefore, a “search engine” is just a tool that you use to search. We don’t think about these things as we search for clothes, dog food, and curtains online, but these search engines are scouring the Internet, trying to find the “keyword” (we’ll come back to that later) that you plugged into the search bar.
Finally: Optimization
This is the big one. We have these search engines that are working for us to give us good results. We have realized, however, that there is a way to work “with” these engines so that certain “keywords” will move a website up in the “rankings.”
Keywords are just words that you will use to draw people to your site. For example, if you’re a veterinarian in Odessa, Texas, you’ll want a keyword like “Odessa, TX Vet”or “Dog Doctor in Odessa.” (This is Local SEO, by the way, because you are just looking for people near Odessa, not the whole world.)
You will choose those keywords based on what people will search for when they need a vet in Odessa. That’s why keywords are so important to your content.
Not only are they important, but their placement on your site, how often they are used, and the variations of keywords can also make a huge difference for your site.
Are You Ranking?
Your “rank” just represents your placement on a Google search. Do a quick search for your website – put in your keyword and see what happens. Are you on the top of page one? Are you on page one? Are you on page 2, 3, 4, 5, or… are you lost?
If you find you’re lost and nowhere to be found, it’s time to make some changes. And that’s where I come in. You need to be seen in order to get those clients, right? Let me help you get noticed, and even more, find the type of clients that you are looking for.
